Home practice

Doing regular yoga classes or retreats is great but ideally we need to incorporate simple practices into our daily lives to experience lasting benefits.

At the request of my students I have recorded a number of short guided meditations and gentle movement sequences that we do regularly in class.

I also recommend doing yoga nidra - a guided relaxation practice that releases psycho-physical tension and can be truly transformative by connecting to the unconscious mind. This website has free yoga nidras in many different languages : https://www.yoganidranetwork.org/downloads

The Alexander Technique

is a way of being mindful in everyday activities. It helps us become aware of our habits which are often unconscious and detrimental to our health. People learn the Alexander Technique (AT) to improve performance in work and everyday life, and to help them cope with stress and physical problems.

The Alexander Technique

… is a powerful tool for personal development, self-awareness, mindfulness and learning new skills. AT helps to change the habits that contribute towards functional problems such as back pain, muscle tension and stiffness, poor posture and breathing problems. AT gives us the freedom to change conditions that stop us reaching our potential and enjoying a happy, healthy life.

Discover your mind.

Mindfulness is when we have an intention to focus our attention on what is going on internally – our thoughts, emotions, and sensations, as well as externally in the world around us, in the present moment and without making any value judgements.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is something which is intrinsic to yoga, meditation and the Alexander Technique. It became popular in the West thanks to the US psychotherapist Jon Kabat-Zinn, who, whilst on a Buddhist meditation retreat in 1979, realised the practical applications of mindfulness for his patients suffering from chronic pain, anxiety and depression. His programme on Mindfulness Based Stress Relief (MBSR) is now taught throughout the world, thanks to 30+ years of scientific research proving that it works.
